The blockchain arm of Sony is welcoming the Japanese social media powerhouse LINE into the web3 ecosystem, as they revealed on Wednesday their plans to transition several well-known mini-apps onto the Sony Soeneium network.
LINE boasts around 200 million active users on its platform, and this partnership aims to introduce four LINE-centric games, referred to as “mini-apps,” to Soneium: Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob. The goal of this integration is to enhance in-game rewards and purchasing options.
Soneium is primarily overseen by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a collaborative initiative between Sony and Startale Labs, based in Singapore. According to a statement, SBSL aims to “transcend boundaries, allowing users to access the advantages of web3 seamlessly.”
Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, stated, “LINE has established a robust presence, and bringing successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem represents a significant step towards greater accessibility. We believe this partnership will foster engagement and user adoption in ways that were previously challenging.”
Launched in January, Soneium’s objective has been to transition web2 users into the web3 domain. This blockchain operates as a layer-2 solution built on Ethereum using Optimism’s OP Stack technology and currently holds the position of the 15th largest layer-2 network by total value locked.
