Gemini has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the most extensive aerial display of a currency symbol, utilizing 1,000 drones to create the Bitcoin emblem.
On March 13 at 8:10 PM CT, the cryptocurrency exchange held a Bitcoin (BTC) drone show at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, in celebration of the establishment of a strategic Bitcoin reserve, following an executive order signed by President Trump.
The dazzling drone display lasted 20 minutes, showcasing a meticulously arranged fleet of 1,000 drones that illuminated the night sky with the recognizable Bitcoin symbol. The drones were operated by Sky Elements, a Fort Worth, Texas-based company that boasts an impressive 12 Guinness World Records.
On March 14, Gemini’s official account shared a photo of the Bitcoin-themed drone performance, along with an image of the company’s newly awarded Guinness World Record certificate, accompanied by the caption “Proof of Record.”
“The largest aerial display of a currency symbol formed by multirotor/drones was achieved by Gemini (USA) in Austin, Texas, USA on 13 March 2025,” reads the certificate from the Guinness World Record organization.
Beyond the Bitcoin symbol, the light show also included visuals such as spaceships launching, an astronaut planting the American flag on Mars, and a massive woolly mammoth.
This woolly mammoth, illustrated by acclaimed multimedia artist Matt Griffin, symbolizes Gemini’s earlier investment when co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss took part in a $15 million funding round for Colossal Biosciences, a de-extinction startup focused on genetically reviving species like the woolly mammoth.
The drones communicated a message: “Go where the dollars won’t,” which is the title of Gemini’s out-of-home campaign launched last November. This phrase aimed to bolster confidence in BTC in light of the strategic Bitcoin reserve announcement.
Following the inaugural White House Crypto Summit on March 7, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to create a national strategic Bitcoin reserve and a U.S. digital asset stockpile. This reserve is expected to include BTC held by the U.S. federal government, estimated to total around 200,000 BTC.
