Google has unveiled Gemini 2.5, its newest experimental AI model, which achieved second place on a competitive leaderboard for AI-based web development tools.
On March 25, Google announced that developers would be able to explore Gemini 2.5 Pro, describing it as a model that engages in reasoned thinking before yielding responses.
The tech giant noted that this advancement enhances both accuracy and performance, especially in tasks related to coding, science, and mathematics. Additionally, they mentioned that Gemini 2.5 can facilitate more context-aware AI agents.
According to self-reported metrics compiled by an AI benchmarking platform, Google indicated that the latest model excelled in reasoning, knowledge, science, and math. They referred to Gemini 2.5 as their “most advanced AI model to date.”
New Model Secures Second Place in Web Development Rankings
The new AI model earned the second position on LMArena’s WebDev leaderboard, a real-time competition where various models tackle web development tasks crafted by the benchmarking platform.
Boasting an arena score of 1267.70, the AI model outperformed competitors like DeepSeek, Grok, and ChatGPT, although the top honor was claimed by Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet, with an arena score of 1354.01.

ChatGPT Remains at the Forefront of AI Tools
While several organizations strive to enhance their models’ performances, ChatGPT by OpenAI continues to lead the AI tools market.
In 2024, the AI chatbot garnered over 40 billion visits annually, capturing nearly a 40% market share. Data from an AI statistics and usage trends platform revealed that, overall, the AI tools market tallied 101 billion visits during the year, with Canva’s AI generator trailing behind in second place, recording 10.4 billion visits and a 10.25% market share.

Recently, new players in the AI tools arena are emerging. In February, data indicated that DeepSeek’s AI tools gained traction and now occupy the third position with a 6.58% market share. DeepSeek also tops the Trending list, boasting a growth rate of 195% and achieving 792 million monthly visits.
Nonetheless, ChatGPT remains the dominant force in this realm, holding a 43% market share in February alongside 5.2 billion monthly visits.
