AgriDex has announced the successful completion of the first on-chain farmland transaction on the Solana network.
This transaction involves a $165,000 purchase of land located in Zambia. The deal was finalized instantly at no additional costs through AgriDex’s digital settlement platform. AgriDex is an initiative that operates on Solana (SOL), aimed at integrating real-world assets with a strong emphasis on the global agriculture sector.
The funds were transferred from the buyer to Sustainable Agricultural Development in Mauritius. This example showcases how blockchain technology can streamline cross-border transactions, making substantial deals more affordable and efficient.
In contrast, traditional bank transfers may require several business days to process and come with significant fees. By leveraging Solana’s framework, recognized for its rapid transaction speeds and low costs, AgriDex presents an alternative method for facilitating agricultural trade.
“For the first time, a contract for farmland has been traded and settled on the blockchain,” stated Henry Duckworth, co-founder and CEO of AgriDex. “This establishes a benchmark for enhancing the exchange and financing of agricultural real estate.”
A $2.7 Trillion Industry
AgriDex has indicated it will handle an additional $2.6 million in farmland transactions in the upcoming weeks. The company claims that its platform enables partners to collectively save over $40 million annually in transaction-related expenses—funds that can be redirected toward operational enhancements and growth opportunities.
This recent transaction builds upon previous AgriDex dealings in commodities such as olive oil, wine, coffee, and livestock. The platform aims to address the inefficiencies plaguing the $2.7 trillion agriculture industry, including sluggish settlements, high fees, and intricate banking procedures.
By removing intermediaries and allowing for quicker access to financing, AgriDex posits that blockchain could significantly enhance how agricultural businesses operate on an international scale.
