Officials from the Federal Bureau of Prisons have relocated former FTX CEO Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried to a transit facility just days after right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson conducted an interview with him.
As of March 27, Bankman-Fried’s status on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website indicated he was now at the Federal Transfer Center (FTC) in Oklahoma City. This implies a move from the facility where he had spent the majority of his time prior to his trial and as he continues with the appeals process regarding his conviction.
Carlson interviewed Bankman-Fried remotely from the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn on March 5, an apparently unauthorized event that led to the former CEO being placed in solitary confinement.
The reason behind the transfer to the transit facility in Oklahoma remains uncertain. Following Bankman-Fried’s conviction on seven felony charges in 2023 and subsequent sentencing to 25 years in prison in 2024, a federal judge had recommended that he stay in the New York area to facilitate his appeals. He had previously been briefly moved to FTC Oklahoma City in May 2024 before returning to MDC in Brooklyn.
Bankman-Fried has been moved between various facilities since a judge revoked his bail in August 2023 due to allegations that he attempted to intimidate witnesses prior to his criminal trial. The Federal Bureau of Prisons indicates that he is scheduled for release in November 2044 but may serve a shorter sentence based on his behavior during incarceration.
This situation is evolving, and additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
