Cambrian, a startup focused on creating infrastructure for AI agents equipped with financial intelligence, has successfully secured $5.9 million in a seed funding round, spearheaded by a16z’s Crypto Startup Accelerator.
As a participant in a16z’s fourth accelerator program, CSX 04, located in San Francisco, Cambrian aims to launch both its testnet and mainnet within the year. The startup has also garnered investments from Stanford’s Blockchain Builder’s Fund and various angel investors.
The mission of Cambrian is to equip artificial intelligence agents, as well as autonomous financial bots and tools, with access to reliable, high-quality onchain and offchain data, enabling them to make informed, risk-sensitive decisions in real time. The network compiles crucial data, including blockchain activity, market prices, and social sentiment, while providing a consensus mechanism to verify this information for agents reliant on validated data inputs.
Founded by experts in AI and blockchain
Leading the project is Sam Green, a former co-founder of Semiotic Labs and a key contributor to The Graph, where he played a significant role in obtaining a $60 million grant and developing infrastructure that facilitated over $80 billion in trading volume.
Green holds a PhD in reinforcement learning and has experience working at a U.S. Department of Energy research facility.
“The evolution of crypto towards autonomous financial agents is advancing rapidly, and we aim to provide paramount financial intelligence for their critical tasks,” Green stated.
Initial applications and strategic collaborations
Cambrian’s inaugural use case is Deep42, an autonomous agent delivering DeFi insights on X (@DeepFortyTwo), exemplifying the potential of the network.
Key partners such as EigenLayer, Virtuals, and Eliza Labs are already working alongside Cambrian to develop applications in the field of agentic finance.
“EigenLayer AVSs offer a streamlined way for developers to rapidly create verifiable runtime environments for these agents. However, verifiable financial agents also require data that comes with strong performance and security assurances. That’s why I’m enthusiastic about Cambrian being released as an AVS. I anticipate Cambrian will play a pivotal role as a verifiable sensory layer in the emerging landscape of agentic finance,” remarked Nader Dabit, Director of Developer Relations at Eigen Labs.
As Cambrian’s network evolves, it aims to serve as the foundational intelligence layer for AI agents functioning within the decentralized economy. The company envisions a future where humans, AI, and nature coexist in harmony.
“Cambrian’s initial steps toward that future begin with innovations in agentic finance.”
