Pakistan has appointed Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, as Strategic Advisor to its newly established Pakistan Crypto Council.
The announcement of Zhao’s appointment came during his visit to Islamabad, where he engaged with key officials, including the Prime Minister, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, and leaders of the central bank and securities commission.
The Pakistan Crypto Council, functioning under the Finance Division, aims to create a regulatory and educational framework regarding digital assets within the country.
“Pakistan boasts a population of 240 million, with more than 60% under the age of 30. The opportunities here are boundless,” Zhao remarked.
He will provide guidance on aspects such as crypto regulation, infrastructure development, adoption, and talent cultivation.
Zhao’s Engagement with Other Nations
Recently, Kyrgyzstan’s National Investment Agency entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Zhao, focusing on enhancing the nation’s blockchain and cryptocurrency infrastructure.
Both sides have agreed to collaborate on infrastructure development, training, and advisory services.
The Finance Minister of Pakistan described this initiative as a “historic moment” that illustrates the country’s willingness to embrace innovation.
Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of the PCC, stated that Zhao’s expertise would position Pakistan as a regional frontrunner in blockchain and digital finance.
