The Solana memecoin platform Pump.fun has brought back its live streaming feature after a five-month hiatus due to troubling misuse.
As per the platform’s co-founder, the feature’s return is accompanied by enhanced moderation tools and “transparent guidelines” that have been implemented. Currently, it is being rolled out to only 5% of users in a phased manner to assess the improved system.
In its newly updated moderation policy, Pump.fun aims to find a middle ground between creativity and safety, striving to foster a social atmosphere that “maintains creativity and freedom of expression while encouraging meaningful interactions among users, devoid of illegal, harmful, or negative conduct.”
The guidelines promote free expression yet impose strict regulations against illegal, harmful, or otherwise unacceptable content. This includes prohibiting violence, animal cruelty, pornography, and any material that could endanger minors. Repeat offenders or severe breaches could lead to account suspension.
The platform also maintains the right to make discretionary decisions regarding content when necessary, acknowledging that some NSFW materials might still be visible but will be evaluated individually through a mix of automated and human moderation mechanisms.
The livestream feature was initially suspended in November 2024 after a series of alarming events unnerved the community. Users had started using livestreams to issue shocking threats, including one instance in which a user allegedly broadcasted a video suggesting self-harm due to a token’s failure to meet a market cap target.
The backlash was swift. Crypto enthusiasts, influencers, and safety advocates criticized the platform for inadequately addressing potential harm, particularly after Beau, a safety product manager at a prominent brand, highlighted the aforementioned incident on social media.
In response, Pump.fun released a community update acknowledging the harm caused, expressing regret, and detailing new measures taken to fill moderation voids. They increased the number of human moderators, implemented smarter automated filtering, and provided assistance resources for viewers affected by the livestreams.
With this cautious relaunch and fresh safeguards in place, Pump.fun asserts its commitment to rebuilding trust while offering creators a secure environment to interact with their audience.
Many community members have praised Pump.fun’s revised strategy and are optimistic about its future in the memecoin space. See below.
This most recent rollout occurs as Pump.fun attempts to regain traction following a significant decline in revenue and user participation. As previously noted, the platform’s daily fees have recently reached a four-month low, reflecting a steep 94% decrease since January.
A considerable portion of this downturn has been attributed to a waning excitement surrounding memecoins, which has notably diminished since early January.
