The US Senate has confirmed Paul Atkins as the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, following a 51-45 vote, predominantly along party lines.
This appointment comes several months after it was announced that Atkins would lead the commission late last year.
Atkins has a history with the SEC, having served as a commissioner from 2002 to 2008.
He will take over the role from Mark Uyeda, who has been acting as chair since January 20.
”We are pleased to welcome Paul Atkins as the next Chairman of the SEC. As a seasoned member of our Commission, we look forward to collaborating with him and our committed staff to advance our mission for the investing community,” Uyeda, along with Commissioners Hester Peirce and Caroline Crenshaw, stated on April 9.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
