In light of past incidents, Pump.fun has reinstated its livestreaming feature for all users.
Following earlier controversies, livestreaming has made a comeback on Pump.fun. On April 11, the Solana-based platform reintroduced its livestreaming service to all users, now accompanied by a more rigorous moderation policy aimed at reducing harmful behavior.
The livestreaming feature was initially removed in November after traders attempted increasingly outrageous stunts to attract attention. Several individuals engaged in deceptive practices or openly flaunted their past scams while streaming. A notable example is a trader named NoHandsNoRug, who concealed his hands on camera, only to later reveal he actually had hands before selling the liquidity of a token live.
Others resorted to dangerous, offensive, or even violent actions to attract viewers. Some participants threatened harm to themselves, others, or even their pets unless their Pump.fun memecoins were purchased.
To prevent a recurrence of such incidents, the newly implemented moderation policy includes provisions against violence, harassment, sexual content, and illegal behavior. Consequently, many of the reckless antics showcased in November will now be prohibited. It’s worth noting that while offensive content isn’t outright banned, there are specific restrictions against promoting terrorism and violent extremism.
Memecoin promoters vie for attention
Pump.fun has streamlined the launch process for memecoins, making it easier than ever. However, this ease of access has intensified competition, making it more challenging for projects to differentiate themselves. For example, on April 11 alone, an impressive 16,000 memecoins were launched on the platform. With such fierce competition, memecoin promoters are resorting to any means necessary to capture attention.
The popular feature was subtly reintroduced on April 5, initially available only to the top 5% of users. As with its previous iteration, it began with traders engaging in eye-catching stunts, but this time they must adhere to the new rules to avoid being banned.
